Gregg Popovich was born on January 28, 1949, in East Chicago, Indiana, in the United States. He played basketball in the past, is currently the president and head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, and is a retired US Air Force officer.
In East Chicago, Indiana, Gregg first played the game of biddy basketball when he was a little youngster. Gregg has helped the Spurs win five NBA Championships since he joined the squad in 1996.
In 1960, Gregg participated in the Gary Biddy Basketball All-Star team and aided his team in finishing third in the global competition. Gregg participated in basketball matches while representing the US Air Force Academy. He briefly considered joining the Central Intelligence Agency before deciding to enlist and serve five years on active duty in the US Air Force.
On October 23, 2015, Popovich took over as head coach of the American men’s national team from Mike Krzyzewski following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In its worst-ever performance in a competitive international game, the US national basketball team finished eighth at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
