Don’t mention Gwyneth Paltrow or her husband will freak

Chris Martin was at a press conference in Mexico City to promote his band Coldplay’s new album produced by Brian Eno. Stereogum breaks down two reports of the event. An AP story has him saying there’s a “genius” track that he can’t talk about it, but feels like everyone has to hear before he dies.

MSNBC’s The Scoop reports on his strange behavior in the face of questions about his wife, Gwyneth. A female reporter asked him if he was ever going to do a duet with Gwyneth and he countered by asking the reporter what her favorite sexual position was. Along with being totally inappropriate, he tried to equate a innocuous question about his wife with one that could get him fired from an office job for sexual harassment. I wonder what his issue was:

“Gwyneth Paltrow must suffer,” opined a writer from Folha de Sao Paulo, according to our translator. “Chris Martin, her husband isn’t one of the nicest persons on earth. At least that’s what it seemed on the 20 minutes press conference.”

The Coldplay frontman was in the South American country, and became especially testy when his famous wife’s name was mentioned

When a woman reporter asked if Martin ever planned to sing a duet with Paltrow, the musician snapped: “What’s your favorite sexual position?”

At one point, Martin reportedly griped that all that matters in music today is that your song becomes a ring tone.

And, according to Folha de Sao Paulo, shortly after Paltrow’s name was mentioned again, Martin stormed out.

Martin is well known for being surly with paparazzi and reporters, and this is nothing new. He’s either pissed that his famous wife is brought up while he’s promoting his band, there’s trouble at home, or a bit of both. I wonder how long these two are going to last. I give it about three to four more months, which I’m sure to get heat for. They’ve got the toddler factor as well as the fame/beauty factor to deal with.

Gwyneth recently told Spanish Vogue that her kids have playdates with Stella McCartney and Madonna’s children. She also mentioned that they like to have some wine after they put the kids to bed. This is similar to another interview in which she said she enjoyed drinking wine in her garden after her kids were asleep.

It was hard to find pictures of Gwyneth and Chris together because even when they’re out together they avoid being photographed as a couple. They once said they want to keep that part of their lives private, but to me it seems like they’re hedging their bets even though they’re married and have kids.
